Clinics & Services
In addition to GP consultations the practice offers a comprehensive range of clinics and healthcare services:
Patients with asthma are encouraged to attend for a regular review in order to optimise control and minimise any symptoms. This review should ideally be annually. Appointments should be booked with one of our specialist nurses - Sister Helen Russell or Sister Alison Wilkinson.
Sister Alison Wilkinson is the lead nurse for diabetes within the surgery and is able to provide comprehensive care for patients with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. There are several other nurses within the nursing team qualified to see patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Patients are able to have their annual retinal screening done at the surgery and are recalled by the retinal screening programme.
Care of the Elderly
We have a Community Matron attached to the practice, Sister Donna Thomas, who will carry out home assessment visits for our elderly patients with acute problems. We also have a Community nurse for Older People who deals with more regular follow-ups.
The practice nurses do these unless you request otherwise. You will be invited for a smear in accordance with the national recall policy (unless the cytologist/consultant recommends repeating the smear more often).
Our nurses offer a comprehensive childhood immunisation service. When your baby is due its first immunisations, you will be sent an appointment for these and for your baby’s 8 week check up. We will then ask you to book further appointments to ensure that your child is fully immunised.
Patients who are over 65 years of age or in the current “At Risk” groups are eligible for the vaccination. Click here for more details.
We have a specialist continence advisor who comes to the surgery once a month. Please ask at reception for further information.
The practice maintains a register of all of its patients with learning difficulties. Everyone on the register is offered an annual health check over and above any other disease management. If you have any questions please speak to your GP.
We perform a number of in-house minor surgical procedures by appointment for our patients.
We run one travel clinic a fortnight, where information regarding vaccination requirements for foreign travel is available, by appointment only, from specialist nurses. There is no charge for this service. These do get booked up well in advance, so please plan ahead!
NHS Health Checks
All eligible patients will be offered a free NHS health check at the practice, to help you prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.
If you are between 40 and 70 years old and are not already being treated at the Practice for heart or kidney disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, atrial fibrillation or high cholesterol, you will be contacted by letter from the surgery, inviting you for an appointment for a free NHS Health Check.
We will check your height, weight, blood pressure, smoking history and cholesterol. This will be a 30 minute appointment with a healthcare assistant who has been appropriately trained.
