Cancer Awareness campaigns for September
September 2024 is Cancer Awareness month for:
Blood Cancer
There are different types of blood cancer (which affect your blood cells), including leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN).
Gynaecological Cancer
Gynaecological cancers can affect anyone who has a womb, ovaries and fallopian tubes, a cervix, vagina and vulva – there are different types of cancer for each one. This includes women, transgender (trans) men and people assigned female at birth. Macmillan Cancer Support provide more information about all these
Thyroid Cancer
Thyroid Cancer is on the rise. It’s a non-smoking related condition that can affect people of any age.
The most common early symptom of thyroid cancer is a lump in the neck, often found toward the front, below the Adam’s Apple. Thyroid cancers can be slow growing, so a lump may have been present for a while.
Childhood Cancer
Most types of cancer become more common as we get older but are extremely rare in children. Several types of cancer are virtually unique to children and unfortunately much uncertainty remains over the causes, which are quite different to those affecting adults.
Urological Cancer
Urological cancers are all the cancers that can affect the organs in the urinary system. These cancers include: kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular, penile and upper urinary tract urothelial cancer (UTUC). Urological problems are very common, and most (such as urinary tract infections, UTIs) are not caused by cancer. But sometimes symptoms can be similar to symptoms of urological cancers.
The important thing is to raise your concerns.
Trust your instincts.
Don’t delay!
