Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccination

BACK TO MAIN INDEX

RSV is a respiratory virus which usually causes cold-like symptoms, but newborns and older adults are most at risk of more severe infection and serious complications.

This autumn, for the first time, the NHS are offering a new RSV vaccination. Like Shingles, this is a one-off vaccine, so a single dose will be offered as routine to everyone turning 75 years old on or after the 1 September 2024. (Vaccination in pregnancy will be provided through ante-natal clinics.)

You can still get the vaccine up to the day before you turn 80, so for the first year of the programme we are also running a catch-up programme, offering the vaccine to those who are already aged 75 to 79 years on 1 September 2024.

You can read more about the campaign here: Your guide to the RSV vaccine for older adults - GOV.UK

And about RSV here: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) - NHS

We are setting up clinics to provide this vaccination throughout this year and will be sending out self-book invitations to eligible adults in batches. If you receive an invitation by text and are unable to book online please call Reception. Please do not call if you have not yet received an invitation, the catch up programme is running until August 2025.
